RésuméDécouvrez la bande-originale officielle du documentaire Birth of the cool acclamé par la critique et nommé aux Grammy's dans la catégorie "meilleur film musical", réalisé et produit par le metteur en scène documentariste chevronné Stanley Nelson. Ce soundtrack est une collection des meilleurs titres de la légende du jazz Miles Davis sélectionnés par le réalisateur, ainsi que de commentaires audio extraits du film. Ce disque montre parfaitement l'évolution du son de Miles dans les années 60 grâce aux titres issus de Sketches of Spain et Someday my prince will come, ou encore son invention du jazz électrique fusion dont le meilleur exemple est sûrement Miles runs the voodoo down en version single edit 45 rpm issu de Bitches brew, jusqu'à son retour triomphant au milieu des années 80 (Tutu en 1986). La compilation dévoile également un titre entièrement inédit intitulé Hail to the real chief. On y retrouve des performances jamais entendues auparavant de Miles sur une musique écrite par Lenny White et co-produite par White et Vince Wilburn jr. Le band sur ce titre est un véritable casting all stars puisqu'il réunit outre White et Wilburn, Marcus Miller, Emilio Modeste, Jeremy Pelt, Antoine Roney, John Scofield, Bernard Wright, et Quinton Zoto.
